Inspirational events at Studio 36!

Drawing blindfold! An exercise from the recent drawing workshop at Studio 36, taken by Penny Somerville.

That workshop and the one taken by Marcus Wylie the following weekend were unusual and led to some inspirational work by participants. The poetry reading in the evening was well attended and enhanced by the guitar playing of Rupert Oxlade from Maker / Maker a shop and ukulele centre just round the corner from the Studio.

A 2 day drawing workshop with Penny Somerville – 28th/29th Sep 2013

Drawing Workshop at Studio 36 with Penny Somerville

The workshop was taught by the very experienced Penny Somerville who was principal lecturer, teaching visual studies in Architectural Glass, paint, drawing and print at North Wales School of Art and Design. She has since run workshops at home and abroad for both children and adults. She lives and works in Sandford for most of the year, although recently she has been teaching in India.

The approach of this workshop was to encourage participants to enjoy, explore and discover the delights of self expression through drawing. Materials to be supplied by Penny.

Saturday 28th September 10 – 5
Sunday 29th September 10 – 3

Open Studios

We had a really good open studios, and luckily no rain so visitors seemed to enjoy the garden, and rewardingly for Tamsin and Veronica to enjoy the studios, while the two artists much enjoyed meeting and talking to visitors!

Ganges to the Ganges, via Ganges with Naomi Hart – Postponed

This event has been postponed until further notice.

A word that sparked a journey of thousands of miles over 3 years, Naomi Hart was drawn to the poetry of the name, Ganges, and the link with her mother, who grew up in Ganges, British Columbia. While living in Ganges, France, Naomi decided to embark on a sketchbook journey of discovery of all the places called Ganges in the world.

From documenting a 24 hour ferry journey through Bangladesh, meeting the people who live on the shifting mudflats and see their homes and crops washed away with the power of the annual snowmelt and experiencing one of the worst cyclones of recent years, to learning to enjoy the slow pace of Indian railways and finding family history in Kolkata, Naomi’s sketchbooks are a vivid record of her travels.

In this slideshow she will share her sketchbook images of the Bangladesh and Indian part of her journey, from the great floodplain of the Ganges Delta, up through Kolkata, Murshidabad, Varanasi and into the foothills of the Himalayas. Images of the people and places will be brought to life with tales of the journey and some of her writing.

£5 – bring a picnic and please book ahead as space will be limited.

Event starts 7pm
